Taviano was the first municipality in Italy to be governed by the fascists after regular elections. But the crimes and the violence of the fascist action squads that preceded and followed the conquest of local power in that small town define and anticipate the paradigm of the more general rise to power of fascism in Italy between 1920 and 1922.
