Instructions for authors

IdPS considers the following types of submissions:

Research Articles (7000-9000 words), which engage in theory-building or theory-testing.

Research Notes (5000 words max), featuring new empirical materials and methodological considerations, without necessarily engaging in theory-building.

Review Essays (5000 words max), that survey how a strand of literature is developing and which debates is feeding, also on the basis of recent publications.

Book Reviews (2000 words max), whose main aim is to critically engage with the most recent scientific productions in the fields of Comparative Politics and International Relations.

Special section - “Security and Praxis”, that is particularly inspired by a critical epistemology and collects short articles shedding an eclectic light on topics dealing with the study of security.

Special Issues

Interdisciplinary Political Studies also invites prospective guest editors to submit special issues proposals.

Special Issue Proposals, which should include the following elements:

• A concept note (3000-5000 words): the editors should present the main argument, ideas, or debate to be developed by the volume.

• A list of proposed papers (titles, authors, and abstracts).

• A curriculum vitae for each guest editor, and optionally for other contributors.

Originality

IdPS exclusively accepts original manuscripts, which have not been published elsewhere or currently under review by another publisher.

Peer review

The editorial board evaluates the suitability of each submitted manuscript and may reject those which fall outside the scope of the journal. Suitable papers will be subject to a rigorous process of double-blind peer-review.

Article Processing Charges

Interdisciplinary Political Studies does not levy Article Processing Charges.

Manuscript preparation

Please download the "Instructions for author" file and follow the general directions. Please number the pages consecutively. Please use single quotation marks, except where ‘a quotation is “within” a quotation’. Long quotations of 40 words or more should be indented without quotation marks. Use the full name of a person, organization, program, or agency when mentioning it for the first time in your manuscript, and provide titles and explanatory phrases when appropriate. To enhance accessibility, avoid overusing abbreviations, initialisms, and acronyms. Use gender neutral language whenever possible. Double-check the spelling of non-English words, and include special characters such as accents and umlauts. Discriminatory language is forbidden.

Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order:

1) cover page: authors’ full names, affiliations, postal addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses on the cover page of the manuscript; acknowledgements as well as funding and grant-awarding bodies. One author should be identified as the corresponding author. Please give the affiliation where the research was conducted. Please note that no changes to affiliation can be made after the manuscript is accepted. Please supply a short biographical note for each author.

2) article: this file should not contain any identifying information about the author(s). It should include: abstract (max. 250 words); 5-6 keywords; main text; references. Figures and tables can be included in the main manuscript and descried by captions.

Please download the correct Template file for your submission: "Article Template", "BookReview Template" or "Editorial Template".

Language editing

Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to use the services of a professional language editor. Before publication authors may be requested to provide a language editing certificate.

References

References should follow Harvard citation style. In the reference list, show sources in alphabetical order by the first author’s surname; list multiple works by the same author in chronological order with earliest dates first.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  2. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  3. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  4. The text, if submitted to a peer-reviewed section (e.g. Research Articles or Research Notes), has had the authors' name removed.
  5. The manuscript is written in good English. Authors who feel their English needs to be checked are strongly advised to use a language editing service.
