Le bande pugliesi tra passato e presente

This study aims to investigate the state of the art of the Apulian Bande da giro today and compare their present condition with that of previous periods. In a cultural context where band styles have evolved, experimented with music from other regions, and attracted a diverse audience, the Banda da giro has gradually lost its role as the people's orchestra, in Puglia as in all other parts of southern Italy. It had maintained this role for nearly two centuries, achieving high levels of perfection and preserving the aesthetic characteristics that had made it the undisputed queen of popular music. The journey we propose will focus on discovering the reasons that led to the Banda da giro's first glory, then its slow decline, convinced that this is a story that tells us much about the spirit and culture of Puglia and, more generally, Southern Italy.

Questo studio ha l'obiettivo di indagare lo stato dell'arte delle Bande da giro pugliesi ai giorni nostri e nel confronto col passato. In un contesto culturale in cui gli stili bandistici si sono rinnovati, hanno sperimentato musiche provenienti da altre geografie, attraendo un pubblico diversificato, la Banda da giro ha progressivamente perso il suo ruolo di Orchestra del popolo, in Puglia come in tutti gli altri luoghi del Meridione; ruolo che aveva mantenuto per circa due secoli, raggiungendo elevati livelli di perfezione e conservando inalterati i connotati estetici che l'avevano eletta regina incontrastata della formazione musicale popolare. Il percorso che proporremo sarà indirizzato alla scoperta dei motivi che hanno determinato prima la gloria della Banda da giro, poi la sua lenta decadenza, convinti che questa sia una storia che ci dice molto dello spirito e della cultura pugliese e, più in generale, meridionale.
