Eremiti e fraticelli del tempo suo nei giudizi di Antonio de Ferrariis Galateo

Abstract

En
Antony de Ferrariis, Galateo (Galatone 1446-Lecce 1517), laudator temporis acta, values, in his writings, the behaviors of the ancients as laudable and that one of the contemporary as blameworthy. In particular, he condemns the hermits and the friars for the crime of Lese Mayesty towards every heavenly and earthly rule including his patrons of Aragon, sovereigns in Naples. For all anonymous hermits, in his opinion haughty, conceited, arrogant as the protagonist of the dialogue Heremita, indicates as example a Francis, identifiable, but in negative, with the Calabrian saint from Paola, well-known as flogger of king Ferrante. In particolare condanna gli eremiti e i fraticelli per delitto di lesa maestà nei riguardi di ogni dominazione celeste e terrena compresi i suoi mecenati d'Aragona, sovrani in Napoli. Per tutti gli anonimi eremiti, a suo giudizio superbi, presuntuosi, arroganti come il protagonista del dialogo Heremita, indica a esempio, un Francesco, identificabile, ma in negativo, con il santo calabrese di Paola, ben noto fustigatore di re Ferrante.
