Galateo alla corte di Giulio II papa (1510/1511)

The year 2017 celebrates the V centenary of one of the greatest glories of Salento: Antonio de Ferraris, known as the Galateo († 1517). There is a vast bibliographic repertoire on him, which reaches our days. In the light of this great literary heritage it seems to be the case to develop in a different light and for other ways the knowledge of this Salento humanist. I thought it appropriate to create a historical-ecclesiastical framework around him taking the cue from his flattering gesture towards Julius II (1503-1513): the tribute to the copy of a Greek text by the famous Donatio Costantini, an episode generally left unchallenged by the scholars of Galateo, which extends the most ecclesiastically-political theme of his thinking about the nature and origin of the Papal State.

L'anno 2017 celebra il V Centenario di una delle maggiori glorie del Salento: Antonio de Ferraris, detto il Galateo († 1517). Su di lui esiste un vasto repertorio bibliografico che giunge fino ai nostri giorni. Alla luce di questo grande patrimonio letterario sembra sia il caso di percorrere altre vie per sviluppare sotto una luce diversa la conoscenza dell'umanista salentino. Ho creduto così opportuno creare una cornice storico-ecclesiastica intorno a lui prendendo spunto dal suo adulatorio gesto nei confronti di Giulio II (1503-1513): l'omaggio della copia di un testo greco della famosa Donatio Constantini, un episodio generalmente lasciato senza chiosa dagli studiosi di Galateo, che amplia la tematica più propriamente ecclesiastico-politica del suo pensiero sulla natura e sull'origine dello Stato pontificio.
