Significato della variabilità in Quercus coccifera s.l. nel Salento (Puglia meridionale)

La quercia spinosa, una delle specie arboree più interessanti della flora pugliese, ha una collocazione tassonomica discussa, non essendo chiara la sua attribuzione a Quercus coccifera L. o a Quercus calliprinos Webb. Nell'ambito di questa problematica si sono prese in considerazione alcune caratteristiche morfologiche riguardanti il polline, le foglie e la tomentosità delle parti giovani, di 10 piante in 5 stazioni salentine diverse per collocazione e struttura vegetazionale, per documentare la variabilità tra individui sia di una stessa che di diverse stazioni.I dati raccolti verranno poi confrontati con quelli ottenuti da piante di differenti stazioni dell'areale sia italiano che circummediterraneo per cogliere eventuali differenze o somiglianze e valutarne l'importanza tassonomica. Questi risultati inoltre comparati con quelli analoghi di quercie di specie diverse presenti nelle stesse zone,o in quelle limitrofe, potrebbero fornire indicazioni sui fenomeni di ibridismo. Le osservazioni hanno evidenziato sottili diversità che distinguono gli elementi di ciascuna stazione, diversita che però pur evidenziando maggiore o minore significativita, non possono essere considerate discriminanti, ma permettono tuttavia di ipotizzare la presenza di situazioni ecologiche particolari ed eventualmente di ipotizzare anche la presenza di un aspetto floristico diverso dall'attuale.

The spiny oak, one ofthe most interesting tree amongthe florain the Apulia region, has a taxonomic collocation which is much debated, since it is not clear whether it belongs to the species Quercus coccifera L. or to the species Q. calliprinos Webb. When considering this problem, we took into consideration the morphological characteristics of the pollen and the leaves, and the hairiness of the young parts of ten plants in five stations of the Salento area, which have different collocations and vegetational structure. This was done in order to document the diversity of the individual plants, both from the same station as well as from different stations. The data obtained will be compared with that obtained from oaks, from different Italian areas and sourroundings Mediterranean areas, in order to verify their possible differences and resemblances, and to evaluate their taxonomic importance. Further more, if compared to similar data relative to oaks of different species which can be found in the same area or in the bordering ones, these results could supply informations regarding the phenomenon of the hybridization. The results show that there are ligth differences, which distinguish individual plants from each station. Even tought these differences are fairly significance, they cannot be considered to discriminating. However, they allow to hypsthize that there is the existence of particular ecologic situations which is different from the present one.
