Bilinguismo, multiculturalismo e uguaglianza in Israele: le scuole di Neve Shalom/What as-Salam e Hand in Hand

Abstract

The Israeli-palestinian conflict is a one of the most enduring and explosive of all the world’s conflicts. This is a religious, national, and territorial struggle between two peoples wich have two different and conflicting histories and identities and wich fight to control the same land. This conflict is a dispute between the State of Israel and Palestinian Authority, in the name of land, religion and national determination, but it is also a personal struggle, that every day involves the peoples – jewish, muslim, cristian, druse - wich live in this region. To solve this last aspect was born in Israel two experiences of bilingual school, Neve Shalom/Wahat as-Salam e Hand in Hand. These schools are dedicated to dialogue, cooperation and genuine and durable peace between Arab and Jews. These schools teach two languages, two cultures, and three religions. In Israel, where are separate schools for Jews and Arabs and the two peoples study in their native language, the bilingue schools is trying to change that. Their missions is to create a strong and inclusive shared society in Israel through a network of integrated, bilingual schools and active communities. They are engaged in educational work for peace, equality and understanding between the two peoples.
