Produttività o produzione primaria?

La confusione esistente circa la terminologia riguardante il primo anello della catena alimentare ha indotto l’Autore ad un esame critico delle definizioni che ne vengono proposte. Nella presente nota si opera una rassegna dei metodi di studio e di stima della produzione primaria, evidenziandone pregi e difetti e auspicando la loro unificazione o almeno la psssibilità di una loro lecita e proficua comparazione. Da tale esame e dalle osservazioni che emergono nella analisi delle diverse interpretazioni si può ritenere acettabile il termine produzione, che rappresenta una situazione reale e quindi effettivamlente misurabile, mentre la produttività, cui si attribuisce dai piu un carattere teorico, non potendo essere valutata, e una parola che deve essere evitata o quanto meno usata con cautela.

The confusion which exist in the terminology as regards the first ring of the feeding chain, has led us to examine critilcally the definitions used. In the present work the metholds of study and estimation of primary production are reviewed, placing in evidence their respective deflects and merits and suggesting their unification or a at least a possible comparison between them. From such an examination and from the observation that emlerge from the analysis of different interpretations one may accept the term production, which describes a real situation and therefore actually measured quantitatively, whereas the term productivity, which has generally a theoretical significance as it is impossible of being measured is a word that should be avoides as much as possible or at least used with caution.
