Primo ritrovamento di Lepidurus Couesii Packard, 1875 in Italia

Viene segnalata la presenza di Lepidurus couesii Packard, 1875 (Crustacea,Branchiopoda, Notostraca), specie nuova per l’Italia e per l’Europa Occidentale. Il ritrovamento è avvenuto in diverse pozze temporanee di acqua dolce della penisola Salentina negli anni 2004 e 2005. La novità faunistica è attribuibile probabilmente alla mancanza di dati pregressi relativi alla regione Puglia, area distinta faunisticamente dal resto dell’Italia peninsulare, e per molti versi affine alla penisola Balcanica, dove peraltro questa stessa specie è presente.

The presence of Lepidurus couesii Packard, 1875 (Crustacea, ranchiopoda, Notostraca), a new species for Italy and Western Europe, is reported. Discovery took place in some freshwater temporary swamps of the Salento peninsula in winter 2004 and 2005. This faunistic novelty can be probably related to the lack of data from the Apulia region, which is separated, by a faunistic point of view,from the rest of peninsular Italy, and somehow similar to the fauna of the Balcanic region, where this same species is present.
