La carta ecologica dei mari pugliesi

Da varie parti è sentita la necessità di disporre di una carta ecologica dei nostri mari, per renderci conto degli aspetti dei vari fondali, della presenza e dell’estensione delle varie biocenosi, anche per poter meglio orientarsi nelle indagini ecologiche e nella scelta di zone di particolare interesse per l’istituzione di Zone di Protezione Biologica. L’A. di questa nota riferisce sulla carta ecologica dei mari pugliesi già ultimata per un arco di costa di circa 760 km. Per la compilazione di questa carta l’A. ha impiegato 18 anni fra lavoro di campagna e di laboratorio, effettuando ben oltre 2300 dragaggi. Sono raffigurate, per i mari della Puglia, numerose biocenosi, fra le quali quella del fondo sabbioso, delle scoglierie sommerse, del sabbione conchiglifero, i fondi ad alghe fotofile, a Cladophora, a Caulerpa, ad Ulva, a Cystoseira, a Posidonia, a Zostera e Cymodocea, a Gracilaria, il sabbione ad Anfiossi, il fondo a Peyssonnelia rosa-marina, il f. coralligeno (a Briozoi), il coralligeno a Cladocora, il f. ad alghe coralline, il f. fangoso nei suoi vari aspetti, i fondali detritici, ecc. Il testo che accompagna la carta, di circa 1400 pagine, riccamente illustrato, costituisce un inventario della fauna e della flora dei mari pugliesi.

Nowaldays there i s a wide-spread necessity of having at our disposal an ecological map of our seas. Sluch a map is necessary to know the characteristics of the difflerent sea bottolms, to aocount for the presencle and the diffussion of the diffierent biocoenose and also to see our way clear in the elcological rfesearches. This map would surely be usleful when we have to choose some areas particularly interelsting for the setting up of biologically protected areas. The author of this,essay reports about the ecological map of the Apulia seas, whilch has been completed for a strip of coast about 760 Km long. To the drawing of this map, the author has devoted about 18 years, partly spent in research campaigns, partly in laboratory work. He has also effiected 2300 dreldgings. The work presents, for Apulia seas, many biocoenolses, aimong whilch the ones referring to thle sand bottom,to the subrnergeld reef,to the conlchiferous sand soil, to the bottoms characterized by photophilae sleaeelds, by Cladophora, Caulerpa, Ulva, Cystoseira, Posidonia, Zostera and Cymodocea. Other biocoenoses described in this work are the ones refierring to the sand bottom with Anphioxus, to thle bottolm with Peyssonnelia Rosa-Marina, to the coralJigenous bottoms eithjer with Brioxoa or with Cladocora, to the bottom with coralligenous algas, to the mulddy bottom in its different aspects, to the detrital bottoms.The map Is explaineld by a richly illustrated text of about 1400 pages. It is an inventory of the fauna anid the flora of the Apulia seas.
