L'articolo si occupa dell'interpretazione di Theogn. 333-334, un enunciato per il quale mancano studi specifici, offrendo una panoramica sulle interpretazioni del distico fornite nel corso del tempo e, in particolare, su quelle avanzate da studiosi del XVI secolo ormai dimenticate. Si viene così a precisare in che maniera tale distico sia stato interpretato nel corso degli studi e ad evidenziare come spiegazioni pur divergenti siano legittime in assenza di ulteriori elementi che possano illuminare su una gnome non solo generica, ma piuttosto singolare. Alcune interpretazioni recenti hanno esplicitamente affermato che Cirno e l'esule sarebbero appartenuti a patrie diverse, mentre le interpretazioni antiche, di XVI secolo, hanno ipotizzato l'esatto contrario.

This paper deals with the interpretation of Theogn. 333-334, a statement for which there is a lack of specific studies. The paper offers a critical overview of the interpretations of the couplet provided over time and, in particular, of those advanced by now forgotten 16th-century scholars. So, we clarify how it has been interpreted and highlight how even divergent explanations are legitimate in the absence of further elements that might shed light on a gnome that is not only generic, but rather unique. Some recent interpretations have explicitly stated that Cyrnus and the exile would have belonged to different homelands, while the ancient interpretations, from the 16th century, have hypothesised exactly the opposite.
