Abstract
Through an analysis of a massive volume of evidence, the author reconstructs the widespread perception of Albania in Italy, built up mostly during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries by travelers, priests, soldiers, and politicians, who visited the country and contributed to draw its picture in an uneven form, which is heavily influenced by orientalist and primitivist prejudices.
