The paper has the intention to investigate and analyse linguistic strategies and conversational dynamics that unravel during the first Maxitrial (1986), by focusing on two figures that had a great media resonance: Tommaso Buscetta e Salvatore Contorno. The transcriptions of a portion of the deposition given by the two collaborators of justice compose the subject of this analysis. The vast and sometimes impetuous ocean of words that the two informants let run or try to stop, during their interrogations, has allowed to formulate some hypotheses about the goals pursued by them, on the basis that the identification of a specific linguistic habitus, besides categorizing individuals, has a central role in the construction of the self-image. Moreover, both had a crucial role in the disambiguation of the language inside “Cosa nostra”, clearing verbal and not verbal aspects of an organization that used the unsaid, the implied and the metaphor, as his principal communication code, even confirming during the trial, their affinity with the Mafia code of conduct.

Il presente lavoro intende indagare e approfondire le strategie linguistiche e le dinamiche conversazionali che si dipanano nel corso del primo Maxiprocesso (1986), ponendo l’attenzione soprattutto su due figure che, in quegli anni, ebbero una grande risonanza mediatica: Tommaso Buscetta e Salvatore Contorno. Le trascrizioni di parte delle deposizioni rese dai due collaboratori di giustizia costituiscono l’oggetto di tale indagine. Il vasto e a tratti impetuoso oceano di parole che i due pentiti lasciano scorrere o tentano di arginare, nel corso dei rispettivi interrogatori, ha consentito di formulare alcune ipotesi circa gli scopi da loro perseguiti, sulla base della considerazione per cui l’identificazione di un determinato habitus linguistico, oltre a categorizzare gli individui, ha un ruolo centrale nella costruzione dell’immagine di sé. Entrambi, inoltre, hanno svolto un ruolo decisivo nella disambiguazione del linguaggio interno alla Cosa nostra, chiarendo gli aspetti verbali e non verbali di una organizzazione che si è servita del non detto, dell’implicito, della metafora, quale suo codice principale di comunicazione, pur confermando, anche in sede di processo, la loro appartenenza al codice di comportamento mafioso.
