Il paratesto editoriale: promozione, impegno culturale e strategie di vendita sulle coperte del "Dizionario della lingua italiana" di Tommaseo-Bellini

Abstract

The contribution concerns what is housed on the covers of the handout copy of the Dictionary of the Italian Language, conceived and edited by Niccolò Tommaseo and Bernardo Bellini, published by Giuseppe and Luigi Pomba for the types of the Unione Tipografico-Editrice Torinese in the years immediately following Unification. Imprinted on the covers of the handouts is a wealth of information pertaining to the Dictionary, other publications of the publishing house, and other products of varied genres. Despite the diversity and sometimes heterogeneity of topics and products, everything housed on the covers represents, at the time of publication, a formidable showcase to inform, educate and entice purchase, dialogue with subscribers, and shape taste to selected readings. It is a specific line of the publisher, dynamic and strong-willed, which will shape the consciences of men and women in the years of Unity.
